On Saturday, February 1, the pilot project “Smart and Digital Greenhouse” was officially presented at the premises of the American Farm School (AFS). This innovative initiative is implemented by Green Projects, in collaboration with Cisco, Dataways, and the American Farm School, aiming to revolutionize greenhouse farming through cutting-edge technologies.
The event highlighted Greece’s great potential in the field of greenhouse cultivation. Through innovative solutions like those developed by Green Projects, the objective is to increase production, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. The integration of advanced technologies promises a more sustainable and efficient future for the agricultural sector, strengthening the country’s position in high-tech farming.

Leading Innovation in Agriculture
Under the leadership of Nikos Tsotsolas, Green Projects plays a pioneering role in transforming the primary sector through advanced technologies. As an associate professor and co-founder of the GP CoreIoT platform and kalaΘος, Tsotsolas emphasized the importance of adopting smart solutions to enhance crop efficiency and sustainability.
By integrating IoT (Internet of Things), artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud-based platforms, greenhouse farming can now benefit from automated management and real-time optimization of crops. This ensures minimal human intervention, leading to higher productivity and better resource efficiency.
The “Smart and Digital Greenhouse” covers an area of approximately 600 square meters and is divided into four compartments, each measuring up to 180 square meters. It includes:
- Two soil-based cultivation areas
- Two hydroponic compartments
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, this greenhouse enables full automation, monitoring, and optimization of cultivation conditions. The combined use of sensors, AI-driven analytics, and IoT connectivity allows for continuous adjustments, ensuring optimal growth conditions and increased crop yields.
A Step Towards the Future of Agriculture
The presentation of the Smart and Digital Greenhouse marks a significant milestone in the evolution of modern agriculture. By leveraging technology-driven solutions, the project showcases how Greece can emerge as a leader in smart greenhouse farming, promoting sustainability, resilience, and efficiency in food production.
As the world moves toward more technologically advanced and sustainable agricultural practices, projects like this set the foundation for a greener and more productive future.
